DoorDash has announced a partnership with Lyft, aiming to integrate ride-sharing benefits into its delivery service offerings. This collaboration was revealed alongside DoorDash’s third-quarter financial results, which showed a 25% increase in revenue to $2.7 billion from July to September. This figure exceeded Wall Street’s expectations of $2.65 billion, as reported by analysts from FactSet.
As part of the partnership, DashPass members will receive discounted rides through Lyft, while Lyft riders will be offered a free trial of DashPass. DashPass members typically pay $9.99 per month or $96 per year for free deliveries on most orders.
This strategic alliance positions DoorDash as a stronger competitor against Uber, which provides free Uber Eats delivery and discounted Uber rides to its Uber One members, also priced at $9.99 per month or $96 per year. Both Lyft and DoorDash have been expanding their loyalty programs by adding partners to attract more customers. Lyft reported that 20% of its rides in the previous year were associated with partners such as Delta Air Lines and Hilton. DoorDash has also recently partnered with Max, Warner Bros. Discovery’s entertainment streaming service.
DoorDash reported a rise in total orders by 18% in the third quarter, reaching 643 million, surpassing analyst expectations of 640 million. The company also posted a net income of $162 million, a significant turnaround from a loss of $73 million in the same period the previous year.
